YES! I make no apologies for talking about business cards again!
I was at a networking event recently. A small group of people were having a proper conversation. When it came to exchanging details, one chap confidently announced, “I’ll do it digitally,” and reached for his phone.
What followed was interesting.
One person said "I can't get on the WiFi and there's no 4G." Another had left their phone in their bag across the room. Someone else said, "honestly, if you don’t give me a card, I’ll never remember who you are in my contacts.”
And just like that, the moment passed. No exchange. No connection. No easy follow-up.
It reminded me of something simple: while we live in a digital world, human interaction is still wonderfully physical. And business cards still have a role to play!
A printed card lingers. It slips into a wallet or handbag, rests on a desk, sits on a kitchen counter. It gets picked up again a few days later and the conversation comes back to mind. A digital contact, however efficiently shared, is often absorbed into a long list of names and quietly forgotten.
But it’s not just about practicality. A well-designed business card carries your brand in a way a phone screen simply can’t. The weight of the stock. The colours. YOUR logo! The texture. The finish - maybe some raised varnish! The subtle detail that makes someone pause for half a second longer than usual. Those details say something about you before you’ve even followed up.
One of our clients recently chose raised clear varnish for their new cards. It wasn’t flash, just confident and considered, applied to their logo. At their next event, the cards were requested to be passed around the table so people could feel them. That tactile moment sparked conversation, curiosity, and most importantly, exposure!
Digital absolutely has its place. We use it every day. But when you want to stand out in a room full of businesses, giving someone something tangible still carries weight.
So perhaps the question isn’t whether business cards still work... It’s whether yours are working hard enough.
If it’s time to take another look... Lets talk!
