I’ll admit it… for years, I was guilty of what many business owners do – random acts of marketing.
Yes, I know. I do this stuff for a living! Branding, marketing, communication – it's what we help our clients get right every single day. But when it came to promoting our own services? Well, let’s just say the cobbler’s shoes were looking a bit worn.
That all changed last November after attending the Entrepreneurs Circle Conference. One word hit home, courtesy of Nigel Botterill: PERSISTENCE.
It stayed with me. Not in a 'write-it-on-a-post-it-note-and-forget-it' kind of way, but genuinely. It made me reflect on how I approach our own marketing. Around the same time, I was reading Stephen Bartlett’s Diary of a CEO and a line in the opening chapters jumped off the page:
"When 1+1=3, great things happen."
Stephen was referring to building a team where the whole becomes greater than the sum of its parts. I liked the idea and gave it my own spin:
Design + Persistence = Three.
Put simply, great design with persistent marketing creates something more powerful than either could alone.
Since then, I’ve made a conscious and consistent effort to walk the walk. That means:
• A weekly blog on our website
• A weekly email to our contact list
• Daily social media posts across our channels
And every six weeks or so, a carefully crafted direct mail piece – yes, including the infamous coloured envelopes!
I’m not hammering a sales message – I’m just showing what we do. And the results speak for themselves. Clients from years ago are getting back in touch. Others are asking for things they didn’t realise we offered. Some are even asking us to take care of the whole promotional package for them.
Now, I’m not claiming to have cracked rhythmic acquisition (yet!), but I can say this: the feast-or-famine cycle is far less dramatic. We’re consistently busy, new referrals are coming in, and the wheels are turning smoothly.
Persistence. Design. Together, they’re creating something bigger.
Would you like to get persistent? Let's talk!
